What the heck was President Donald J. Trump thinking when he fired FBI Director James Comey? Why did the President say "Thanks for saying I'm innocent in the Russia probe" and "Thanks for saying I have big hands"? (OK we made up the last part). What is more laughable, the President's rationale that Comey was fired because he was mean to Hillary Clinton on emails, or the sudden Ascension of Comey to martyrdom and sainthood by Democrats?
One thing is for sure; if Comey had to go, there was a right way to fire him and a wrong way, and this was the wrong way because the President's actions raise unnecessary doubts about the integrity of the Russian Hacking investigation. If the President wanted to replace Comey and increase the faith in our justice system, he should have consulted with Congress first.
But as Condoleeza Rice just said on CNN, we still have the institutions (Congress, courts, free press and FBI) to ensure the Russian hacking/collusion probe will go on. So take a deep breath folks. We still have a strong democracy. Let's all support a strong investigation of the Russian hacking of our elections and the possible role of the Trump campaign.
